The German giants are in need of defensive cover, having been left thin at the back following injury setbacks suffered by Matthijs de Ligt.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern see 35-year-old Boateng as the ideal candidate to step in to provide some cover.

The Bundesliga champions are already in advanced talks with the free agent and are set to hold further negotiations with him on Sunday.
The club higher-ups want him back at the Allianz Arena and the ex-Germany international is eager to make his return.

Boateng spent 10 years with Bayern and won nine Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokals and two Champions League crowns with the club.
He made over 360 appearances for the club before he left to join Lyon in a free transfer in 2021, but he has been a free agent since departing the French side last summer.
