According to a report from an Italian TV station RAI Sport (via AreaNapoli), Napoli are working on the arrival of a new centre-forward and could possibly go for Krzysztof Piatek.
First, though, they have to offload Fernando Llorente to Tottenham Hotspur.
What’s the word, then?
There could well be changes over in Naples this month as the Serie A giants are looking to reshuffle their forward line, shipping off the old and bringing in the new.
The same source confirms that Napoli have held rough talks with Spurs over the possible transfer of Llorente back to England, following the serious injury to their star man Harry Kane.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
The 34-year-old veteran would have to be offloaded if the Italians were to go for a new striker and they seem to have Piatek on their radar. However, the Poland international truly is a wanted man as both Newcastle and Aston Villa have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
One way or another, they have to move on Llorente – as the same source emphasises – and Spurs are the obvious solution for that problem.
Verdict
On the face of it, Napoli certainly have the right idea.
Shipping off a 34-year-old striker for a much younger and talented player is definitely what they should be aspiring to do.
Llorente has managed to score four goals and assist one in the 23 games he’s played for the club since his summer arrival, which is a decent return but still leaves them wanting more.
It has to be said, however, that Piatek isn’t really firing on all cylinders either – the 24-year-old has netted five goals so far in 2019/20 and also has one assist on the side.
But the sheer age difference and scope for improvement the AC Milan ace has make this movement a no-brainer for Napoli.
Meanwhile, Spurs could definitely get a hefty upgrade on Serge Aurier if they manage to land £30m-rated man…
